What is Corneal linking system?
Corneal disorders affect the individual's sight and therefore quality of life. Corneal cross-linking is a treatment procedure for corneal ectatic disease (corneal ectasias), which is characterized by gradual thinning and resulting bulging of the corneal structure.
How Corneal Cross-Linking Works
The procedure involves two main components:
- Riboflavin (Vitamin B2): A specially formulated solution is applied to the cornea, making it more reactive to UV light.
- UV Light: The cornea is exposed to controlled UV-A light, which activates the riboflavin. This process creates new collagen cross-links within the corneal tissue, strengthening its structure.
